Queen Latifah Shows Support For Jussie Smollett In New Interview
Actress, rapper, singer, and producer Queen Latifah showed her support for Jussie Smollett in a new interview.
The Fox Star actress was initially hesitant to talk about Smollett during her interview for a segment of Yahoo News’ “Through Her Eyes,” but Latifah swifly opened up.
She was asked by the interviewer, Zainab Salbi, “Should society be compassionate with someone like Jussie Smollett?”
“I am not about to discuss Jussie Smollett. Until somebody can show me some proof, otherwise I’m going with him,” Latifah shared.
“Cause the guy I’ve seen has always been someone who cares about people and someone who cares about others. And who is very kind and who has always been cool and sweet. And that’s just the guy I know, so until I can see some definitive proof, which I haven’t seen yet. Then I gotta go with him until I see otherwise.”
When the “Ladies First” rapper was asked, “should we look at it from a racial justice lens,” the hip-hop icon said, “You should always be aware of that regardless.”
She continued, “I hope everything works out in the end and everyone basically comes out unscathed.”
On Feb. 21, Smollett turned himself into the Chicago police after being charged with filing a false police report for the alleged hate crime attack that supposedly transpired in the Windy City in January.
The Empire actor is currently out on $100,000 bond and is due back in court on March 14.
