Emily Warren Shares Feelings On Debut Solo Album
Emily Warren sat down with Billboard to talk about her debut solo album Quiet Your Mind.
She told Billboard, “I spent a few years on the writing side, and I love it and I’ll never stop doing it, but there’s something that comes with taking everything to the finish line and doing the artwork and doing the videos and everything that’s been really satisfying to dip into.”
Emily has been writing and co-writing songs for years, including The Chainsmokers; “Don’t Let Me Down” and Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”.
“One thing that’s been really interesting is trying not to compare my artist stuff with the pop stuff I do, because it’s in such a different world,” Emily said. “Not only stylistically, but obviously with like radio push and label push and all this stuff — and kind of just managing expectations and thinking, ‘This is my creative outlet. I don’t need to hold it at the standard of everything else.’ It’s definitely been a learning experience.”
You may know Emily from her feature on The Chainsmokers’ current hit “Side Effects”, which is still climbing the charts. She co-wrote the song, and eventually it ended up in The Chainsmokers’ hands. “I woke up to all these missed calls and text messages [from The Chainsmokers], like, ‘We need this song and we’re keeping you on it!’ And I was like, ‘AHHH.’ So that was the quickest ever turnaround of writing a song and having it come out, and it’s been awesome being featured on it just because it’s awesome hanging out with them and performing with them, and it’s different for me and different for them. Watching it do its thing, it’s been amazing.”
Emily’s Quiet Your Mind will be out October 5.
