Flood Warning For Cape Fear River
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Cape Fear River with “confidence increasing in potentially catastrophic flooding in the Sandhills and the southern Coastal Plain.”
Based on information from the National Weather Service, there is a high probability the banks of the Cape Fear River will overflow at a level higher than occurred during Hurricane Matthew.
If you live in close proximity to the Cape Fear River, you should consider voluntarily evacuating that area. There is also a high level of concern for the safety of those in the vicinity of the Little River in the Manchester area and they should also consider voluntarily evacuating.
There is a high probability this will become a mandatory evacuation order within the next 24 hours, with the goal of residents being out of these possible flood areas by Saturday evening.
We are refining the areas of concern now based on the NWS forecast and will issue information on more specific areas that may be affected in the coming hours.
Residents should monitor the news media, social media and government websites for further direction emergency management.

There may be a limited number of cots at some shelters and residents should take sleeping bags, blankets, mats, and /or cots.
Anyone who needs assistance with transportation to one of the shelters must call 910-678-7657 to submit a transportation request. FAST will continue transporting residents to shelters until it is no longer safe to transport.
