Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel/Kamala Khan in Marvel Studios’ MS. MARVEL.

The highly-anticipated Disney+ series of Marvel’s first Muslim superhero dropped today (June 8) and fans took Twitter to rave about it. As we earlier reported, Ms. Marvel’s Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) hails from Jersey City, New Jersey.

Unlike the comic version of Kamala, who develops the power to enlarge parts of her body through the Inhuman terrigenesis process, Ms. Marvel’s Kamala’s abilities are apparently more cosmic in nature and involve her making energy constructs. (While Marvel introduced the Inhumans via an ABC TV series that was canceled after just a few episodes in 2017; it was one of Marvel’s only recent failures. While they seemed intent on wiping it from their continuity, Anson Mount’s Inhumans character Black Bolt made a cameo in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ). Insignificant as the changes to Kamala’s power set may seem now, they may be a sign of how she’s going to eventually cross paths with her idol Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) and Monica Rambeau (who appeared first in as a child in Captain Marvel, which took place in the ’90s, and later as an adult on WandaVision). We know that all three characters will team up in next year’s The Marvels.
