Severe Weather Watch: Tracking Helene

As Hurricane Idalia impacts Florida today, it’s time to pay attention and prepare for potential impacts in North Carolina later in the week.

Currently, heavy rain is expected across our region starting Wednesday and continuing overnight into Thursday.

As closures and delays are announced we will add them to this page.

  • Richmond County Schools - Closed Thursday

  • Hoke County Schools - No After-School Wednesday, Remote Thursday

    Due to the possible risk of localized flooding and gusty winds as a result of Hurricane Idalia, and out of an abundance of caution, Hoke County Schools will transition to an asynchronous remote learning day for Thursday, August 31. Teachers will send assignments home with students on Wednesday. In addition, all after-school activities and after-school care for Wednesday, August 30 will be canceled.
    At this time, we plan to operate on a normal schedule on Friday, September 1. All updates will be shared via our mass calling system as well as posted on our district website and social media accounts.

  • Bladen County Schools - No After-School Wednesday, Remote Thursday

    Due to the possible risk of localized flooding and gusty winds as a result of Hurricane Idalia, and out of an abundance of caution, Bladen County Schools will transition to an asynchronous remote learning day for Thursday, August 31, 2023. Teachers will send assignments home with students on Wednesday. In addition, all after school activities for Wednesday, August 30 will be cancelled.
    At this time, we plan to operate on a normal schedule on Friday, September 1, 2023. We ask everyone to stay tuned to the district website, social media accounts, and local news outlets for additional updates.
  • Columbus County Schools - Remote Thursday

  • Whiteville City Schools - Closed Thursday

    Wednesday, August 30, 2023 – All schools will operate on a regular schedule with no after school sporting events.  Sporting practices may be conducted but must be concluded by 6:00 p.m.

    Thursday, August 31, 2023- Whiteville City Schools is CLOSED to all students and staff.

    Friday, September 1, 2023 – At this time we are anticipating operating on a regular schedule.
