The Kiwanis Club of the Sandhills will sell blueberry flats for $36 each on June 5-6 at Aberdeen Lake Park. All money raised goes to children's programs in Moore County. Each flat contains 12 one-pint cartons.
Pick-up times are Friday, June 5 from 9:30am to 5:30pm. Saturday hours run from 9:00am to 12:00pm. Buyers can pay with credit cards or checks.
Since 2015, this sale has brought in over $100,000. Past years have helped more than 500 kids through Back Pack Pals and S.T.E.A.M. initiatives in Sandhills schools.
Seven programs benefit: Kiwanis Programs for the Children of Moore County, Save the Children Schools Reading Program, Back Pack Pals, Celebration of the Military Child, Scholarship Programs, S.T.E.A.M., and Picquet Music Competition.
The literacy program has improved reading rates in more than 10 Moore County elementary schools over five years. Scholarship money has helped more than 50 seniors each year.
Celebration of the Military Child events honor Fort Liberty families with annual festivals. More than 1,000 people attend in the Sandhills region. The Picquet Music Competition has given prizes to 20 musicians each year since 2010.
Berry sales have been an annual tradition for over a decade. This builds on past community fundraisers like peanut sales.
Aberdeen Lake Park was chosen for its central location. The site has been used in previous years during June harvest season.
The $36 price reflects North Carolina berries sourced from local U-pick farms. Pricing has stayed the same to maximize fundraising impact.
