5 Thoughts We Had While Watching Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘The Electric State’ Trailer

The Electric State is an upcoming sci-fi adventure comedy movie by the Russo brothers (you know, the geniuses behind the Marvel superheroes you love). The film is based on a 2018 graphic novel of the same name by Simon Stålenhag. The story follows how humans banished the robots to the “Electric State” after an uprising. An orphaned teenager, Michelle (played by the recently married Millie Bobby Brown), is searching for her brother. She is approached by a robot who tells her that it knows where her brother is. Chris Pratt plays Keats, a soldier who participated in the war against the robots but later felt it was wrong and agreed to help her.  

There were flashback scenes when Brown’s character was still with her brother. She looked so young during these scenes. But in the present time when she’s looking for him, she looks so mature, like a newly married woman. Also, how is she already married in real life? We still see her as Eleven from Stranger Things.  

Look, we haven’t figured out all the details, but we think the robot who approached her, claiming it knows where her brother is, is actually her brother. The robot made the same hand gesture—forming half a heart with his hand near his chest—that her brother used to make. We think it’s something the sibling always did.  

In a scene from the trailer, Stanley Tucci is interviewed about the robots and how he famously did not own one because he never trusted them. He claims, “They’re not us. How could they possibly understand our best interests?” His portrayal of a villain is chilling because he doesn’t really look like one. It’s disconcerting, especially when remembering his flamboyant character, Caesar Flickerman, in The Hunger Games series.  

The trailer showed that the robots were banished because they had an uprising and "deviated from their assigned tasks." However, after watching more of the trailer, we feel they were pushed into it and are not the real villains. They simply retaliated because of the mistreatment they received from humans. And we know humans, so, we’re team robots on this one.  

There are scenes in which Chris Pratt is unrecognizable because of his wig and mustache. 

The Electric State will air on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
