Victoria Justice Says Dan Schneider Owes Her An Apology
Victoria Justice, former Nickelodeon star, is discussing the docu-series Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV .
While posing on the cover of Marie Claire‘s May music issue, Justice says Dan Schneider owes her an apology. The Victorious star detailed her “complex” relationship with the producer and show creator, who was accused of a hostile and sexist work environment.
The 31-year-old actress and singer says that Dan’s “very large ego” was “very evident” in the Investigation Discovery documentary. The former child star shared that, at times, his ego “clouded his better judgment and affected the way he treated people.” The way he treated people, she noted, was “unfairly.”
Dan Schneider Owes Her An Apology
Justice, who got her start on Zoey 101 at age 12, said she believes Schneider owes her an apology for the unfair way he treated her during her time with the network. “I would say I’m definitely one of the people on that list,” Justice added.
While she said nothing sexual in nature happened during her time working with Schneider, she did note that some moments “were in poor taste.” Doubling down on her thoughts of Schneider, Justice isn’t condoning any of his behavior.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old “Treat Myself” singer gave Schneider credit for giving her her first “big break.” She further explained that he “completely changed my life.” If it weren’t for Dan, Victoria doubts that she would be where she is today, so for that, she will “always be grateful.”
Justice isn’t the only former Nickelodeon star with a complicated relationship with Schneider. Drake Bell, who starred in All That and Drake & Josh, conveyed his thoughts about the former show creator. Drake said Dan was the only higher-up in Nickelodeon that had his back after he was sexually abused by Brian Peck.
Another former Zoey 101 star, Alexis Nikolas, has been vocal about her time as a child actor both in the documentary and on social media. Nikolas, who starred as Lola in the sitcom, called Schneider a “disgrace” on Instagram in reaction to his interview following the release of Quiet On Set. She wrote in her caption: “His legacy as a CREEP is now KNOWN because his sets are loud AF now. byeeeeee Dan! See ya never again [kiss emoji].”
Schneider has since sued the producers of Quiet On Set for defamation over his portrayal. In a lawsuit filed earlier this month in Los Angeles Superior Court, the All That creator said his depiction in the five-part documentary series is a “hit job.”
