Daniel Craig attends the "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" European Premiere Closing Night Gala during the 66th BFI London Film Festival at The Royal Festival Hall on October 16, 2022 in London, England.

Daniel Craig’s super-sleuth Knives Out character Benoit Blanc is a member of the LGBTQ community, the film’s director revealed. Over the weekend, filmmaker Rian Johnson and Craig, 54, appeared at a press conference during the London Film Festival, where the duo revealed that the actor’s detective is in a same-sex relationship.

According to Insider, a scene in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery indicates that Blanc is living with a man. When asked whether this means the character is queer, Johnson replied, “Yes, he obviously is. And there’s nobody in the world I can imagine in bringing me more joy for Benoit Blanc to be with.” Craig added, “No spoilers, [but] who wouldn’t want to live with that person?”

Aside from Craig’s Blanc being featured in both films, it appears that there isn’t any correlation between the two projects, since they involve two completely different murders and suspects. Johnson also clarified that Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery  serves more as a standalone than a sequel.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is streaming on Netflix on December 23, with a limited theatre run across the US on November 23. Alongside Craig reprising his role as Blanc, Glass Onion also stars Kate Hudson, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Janelle Monáe, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick and Madelyn. Meanwhile, Hugh Grant, Yo-Yo Ma and the late Angela Lansbury and Stephen Sondheim are credited as playing themselves, according to Entertainment Weekly. The sequel focuses on tech billionaire Miles Bron (Norton, 53), who invites friends for a trip to his private island, though one of them soon winds up dead.

According to the film’s trailer, Blanc is on a trip to Greece to solve his latest case which involves a new set of eccentric characters. The actors themselves also went to Greece to film the movie during the pandemic, which Hahn said brought the cast closer. “It did feel like we were this traveling circus together which added, I think, to the texture of the movie,” The WandaVision actress said during the press conference. “That kind of closeness that we were able to create under those circumstances really added [to the movie].”
