‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 5 Teaser: ‘I Feel Gilead Pulling Me Back’
Blessed be this day! June Osborne is back this fall in the fifth season of The Handmaid’s Tale, with the critically-acclaimed series returning to Hulu Wednesday, September 14.
Per the official logline, June (Elisabeth Moss) faces consequences for killing Commander Waterford (Joseph Fiennes) while struggling to redefine her identity and purpose. The widowed Serena (Yvonne Strahovski) attempts to raise her profile in Toronto as Gilead’s influence creeps into Canada. Commander Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) works with Nick (Max Minghella) and Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) as he tries to reform Gilead and rise in power. June, Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) fight Gilead from a distance as they continue their mission to save and reunite with Hannah.
“I want her to know that it was me,” Elisabeth Moss’ voiceover says while her bloodied hands are being washed. With a crooked smile, she adds, “The grieving wife. She knows the world is watching… I feel Gilead pulling me back.”
Per TVLine, in the Season 4 finale, June lured Commander Waterford, who’d ritually raped her for years, into the demilitarized zone between Gilead and Canada. With the help of her fellow former handmaids, they chased him through the woods and murdered him. June returned home only to say goodbye to her husband and baby daughter; at a detention center, Serena opened a mysterious package and found Joe’s finger and wedding ring inside.
