Adam Levine Responds to Criticism Reacting to Fan Grabbing Him
Adam Levine doesn’t want his fans to think that he looks down on them after a fan jumped on stage and put her arms around him, leaving him in shock and disgust.
The incident took place during Maroon 5’s Los Angeles show over the weekend. Levine, 42, took to his Instagram Story yesterday (October 26) to defend his reaction against apparent claims that he views the group’s fans as “beneath” him.
“Hey guys, so I just wanted to address the Hollywood Bowl incident thing: a fan coming up to me onstage,” Adam began. “I have always been someone that loves, respects, worships our fans. Without our fans, we don’t have a job… I say that all the time, to our fans. To think that anyone would believe that I thought that our fans were beneath us, or less than us, makes my stomach turn. That’s just not who I am. That’s not who I’ve ever been.”
The “Animals” singer continued, “So I just need you guys to know I was really startled, and sometimes when you’re startled…you have to shake it off and move on because I’m doing my job up there. And it’s what I pride myself on, so I need to let you guys know what my heart is, and my heart is that connection that exists between the band performing onstage and the fans. I hope we can all understand that,” and then he blew a kiss to the camera.
After the show, footage posted by TikTok user @luispenaloza9525 went viral, with over 9.4 million views. Levine is seen belting out “Baby you’re all I need,” from Maroon 5’s hit song “Sunday Morning.” In the video, security quickly pulled the woman off the stage. Levine then walks away from her, furrowing his brows, raised his arms and clearly mouthed, “F—” to the crowd.
“This lady jumped on stage during Maroon 5’s performance…,” the TikTok user wrote. “Adam Levine was not having it.”

The singer’s reaction was met with criticism from some individuals, including one person who took to the comments section to write, “oww he forgot dat without his fans he’s nobody😂” Another fan wrote, “He needs to sit down and be humble for a sec.” One person wrote, “His reaction wasn’t ab touch consent. That was a demeaning response to humiliate her. Direct disdain would have been an appropriate response.”
Not all of the comments were negative, as many other people sided with Adam writing, “He doesn’t even have to be humbled… a random person invaded his personal space during a pandemic he acted the right way yall jus want to make him bad.”
Another person wrote, “Nope. How about we stop defending people touching other people without consent.” Another TikTok user wrote, “If a male fan was that aggressive with a female celebrity this comment section would look way different. She’s not entitled to touch him or anyone.”
