Tiffany Haddish Says Money Recording Academy Offered For Pre-Grammy Hosting Gig Was ‘Disrespectful’
The Recording Academy has been dealing with a lot of drama since the Grammy nominations were announced. Specifically The Weeknd, who was snubbed and not nominated, despite having one of the biggest albums of the year.
Now Tiffany Haddish is calling them out on being cheap.
Per Variety, the comedian revealed she turned down a pre-Grammys hosting gig after they made her a disrespectful offer. She was asked to do what is called Premiere Ceremony, but was told she would have to do it for free. They also said she’d have to take care of the costs for her hair, makeup, and wardrobe.
Tiffany said, “All of that would have to come out of my pocket. I don’t know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it’s disrespectful … I was like, ‘The exposure is amazing but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking.'”
She added, “As much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that’s not OK.”
When asked about what Tiffany said, a rep for the Recording Academy pointed out that Premiere Ceremony is a not-for-profit organization. They lastly added that all of the hosts, presenters, and performers previously involved had done it for free.
