The ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Revival Has Been Halted: Here’s What Happened
There was a lot of excitement surrounding the reboot of Lizzie McGuire, but it appears that it has come to a halt. Per Variety, production of the show was halted after the series creator and showrunner Terri Minsky was fired. This happened with just two episodes completed. “Her unceremonious exit has led many industry insiders to speculate that the revival will not move forward.”
Hilary Duff hasn’t publicly spoken about the situation, but she did subtly address it. “Late Tuesday night, Duff posted a screenshot to her Instagram story of a news headline about the planned Disney Plus ‘Love, Simon’ series. Now titled ‘Love, Victor,’ the show was moved this week to Hulu after it was deemed not ‘family-friendly’ enough for the Disney-branded streamer. In her post, Duff circled the words ‘family-friendly’ in the headline and wrote above it ‘Sounds familiar.'”

Minsky spoke with Variety about her plans for the show and how she intended on having a more grownup version of the sitcom, “I would love the show to exist, but ideally I would love it if it could be given that treatment of going to Hulu and doing the show that we were doing. That’s the part where I am completely in the dark. It’s important to me that this show was important to people. I felt like I wanted to do a show that was worthy of that kind of devotion.”
Disney released a statement about the show’s fate, writing, “We paused production on ‘Lizzie McGuire’ a few weeks ago to allow time for some creative re-development. Our goal is to resume production and to tell an authentic story that connects to the millions who are emotionally invested in the character, and a new generation of viewers too.”
