Breaking News: Jussie Smolett Has Been Indicted Again For Allegedly Staging 2019 Attack

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - MARCH 26: Actor Jussie Smollett leaves the Leighton Courthouse after his court appearance on March 26, 2019 in Chicago, Illinois. This morning in court it was announced that all charges were dropped against the actor. (Photo by Nuccio DiNuzzo/Getty Images)

Gossip web site TMZ is reporting that Jussie Smollett has officially been indicted again in Chicago. They explain, “A grand jury handed up the new indictment against Jussie on Tuesday. Dan Webb was appointed special prosecutor for the case last summer. This effectively re-opens the controversial case that led to Smollett getting fired from Empire.”

Back in March, Cook County prosecutors dropped all 16 felony accounts against the actor. The outcome was called a “just disposition and appropriate resolution.” TMZ explains that this decision upset Chicago law enforcement, which caused them to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate how the case was handled. ‘The officers who reinvestigated the case are the same ones who originally investigated it. These officers are currently being sued by Smollett. They have also spent taxpayer money on having these officers go to Los Angeles and harass members of Smollett’s team and friends.”

To recap, back in 2019, Smollett claims he was attacked by two white men who not only yelled racial and homophobic slurs at him, but also put a rope around his neck and doused him with bleach. Afterward, he was accused of hiring two brothers — Abel and Ola Osundairo — to stage the attack against him.

He will reappear in court on February 24.
