Lena Waithe & Wife Alana Mayo Split Two Months Following Marriage Announcement
Screenwriter Lena Waithe and her wife, Alana Mayo are headed to splitsville, just a few months after their marriage announcement.
The split between Waithe and Mayo was confirmed by Waithe’s representative, Jillian Roscoe, via USA Today on Wednesday (Jan. 22).
“After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” the pair said in a joint statement provided by Roscoe. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
Waithe had previously announced that she and Mayo, the president of production at Michael B. Jordan’s company, Outlier Society, secretly wed in a private ceremony at a San Francisco courthouse.
“We snuck and did it,” Waithe revealed to guest host John Legend on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” in November. “We didn’t really make any announcements.”
Waithe continued: “We got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea, like all good things are. She was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.’ “
