Viola Davis To Portray Michelle Obama In Showtime’s ‘First Ladies’
Oscar, Emmy, and Tony Award-winning actress Viola Davis is slated to portray former first lady Michelle Obama in Showtime’s First Ladies, which is a one-hour drama that has a three script commitment, reports Deadline.
Not only is Davis portraying Obama in the drama, but she’s also executive producing it.
The project derives from writer Aaron Cooley (novels Four Seats: A Thriller of the Supreme Court, The Guns of Ridgewood) Davis and Julius Tennon’s JuVee Productions, Cathy Schulman’s Welle Entertainment (Otherhood), Jeff Gaspin’s Gaspin Media (LA’s Finest) and Brad Kaplan (The Intruder).
Showtime, alongside Lionsgate TV, will be co-producing the project that will be written by Cooley. Set in the East Wing of the White House, First Ladies promises to reveal the personal and political lives of Eleanor Roosevelt, Betty Ford, and Michelle Obama during the first season.
Viola Davis is currently the star of ABC’s hit show How to Get Away with Murder, which returns with its sixth and last season this fall.
