Miley Cyrus’s 2019 MTV VMAs Performance Will Be Her First Since Liam Hemsworth Split
Turns out, Miley Cyrus will be at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards after all. It was announced on Monday (Aug. 26), that Cyrus will perform her new single “Slide Away” at the VMAs.
The awards show marks her live debut of the breakup song released last week. But it will also be Cyrus’ first performance since announcing her separation from Liam Hemsworth.

Previously, Cyrus said she would not perform at this year’s VMAs despite being nominated for two awards: Song of Summer and Power Anthem for “Mother’s Daughter.” When a fan on Instagram wrote that they weren’t going to watch the VMAs unless Cyrus performed, she responded, “No f*ckin way.”
Later, another fan who didn’t believe the VMAs were worthy of a Miley performance wrote, “They care more about a f*cking green screen than a message to the world. Nominate anyone but at least do not use the image of Miley to promote their damn prizes.” Cyrus’ response? “Exactly.”
It appears Cyrus had a recent change of heart. Watch the VMAs tonight at 8 pm EST on MTV to see Cyrus perform “Slide Away” live for the first time. And maybe, just maybe, to see if she walks the red carpet with Kaitlynn Carter.
